Last checked August 2026. Wix changes its interface often — if something looks different, the underlying steps usually still apply.
Transferring is different from connecting. A transfer moves the domain registration itself to Wix. You only need it if you want a single bill and a single login.
Step 1: Check the domain is eligible
It must be more than 60 days old and not recently transferred.
Step 2: Unlock the domain
At your current provider, turn off the transfer lock or registrar lock.
Step 3: Get the authorisation code
Also called an EPP or auth code. Your current provider emails it to the registered contact address.
Step 4: Start the transfer in Wix
In your site dashboard open Settings, then Domains, and choose to transfer a domain to Wix.
Step 5: Enter the code and pay
A transfer usually includes another year of registration.
Step 6: Approve the confirmation email
Check the inbox of the registered domain contact and approve the transfer.
Step 7: Wait up to a week
Transfers commonly complete within five to seven days.
Common questions
- Is transferring the same as connecting?
- No. Connecting points an existing domain at your Wix site. Transferring moves the registration itself to Wix.
